“IT’S ALL SO SIMPLE”
When Karl Barth was speaking at Chicago University, he was asked by one of the students what was the most profound theological statement he had ever reached. He paused for a moment and said, "Jesus loves me, this I know." How often are we caught looking for profound words of wisdom only to discover they come in simplicity?
In the Pacific Northwest, where it’s overcast most days, lots of people suffer from light deprivation, which results in mood swings and depression. There’s even a scientific name for this problem: “Seasonal Affective Disorder,“ or S.A.D. People suffering from S.A.D. have to set up special light panels in their homes and get heavy doses of illumination in order to be happy campers. We need light. We can’t survive without it.
We can’t survive without the Son of God, either. Our shadowy hearts, tinted by selfishness and confusion, better known as sin, need His light. They need the light that only Christ can give. They need the love that only Christ can give. The love that was willing to die upon the cross that we stand forgiven of our sins. The love that rose from the grave that we live in the assurance of eternal life with our Lord and Savior in heaven. The simplicity of the message. "Jesus loves me, this I know ."
And so I leave you with the classic text of the Gospel, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
Jesus said, "Feed My lambs,… Take care of My sheep,… Feed My sheep." John 21:15,.. 16,.. 17
God’s blessings on you and yours! Pastor Meier
